What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a holistic medical approach*, at once scientific, philosophical and spiritual, originating from ancestral ancient India. Ayurveda meaning "knowledge of life" in Sanskrit.

For Ayurveda, the body and the spirit are a global entity and must be cared for together. Its particularity is to proceed by taking into account the origin of the problem. It is based on harmony, balance, doshas, the three vital energies that we all possess. These are Pitta, Vata, Kapha.

The human constitutes an essential element of the macrocosm which surrounds him and perpetually possesses, in him and around him, the five main elements of the Cosmos - Ether (space), Air, Fire, Water and the Earth. These elements continually interact and are present in all things. They constantly influence us and constitute the vital energies, the doshas. Pitta is composed of fire and water (the quantity of fire is major); Vata of air and ether (in equal proportion); Kapha of water and earth (the ratio of water being more important). All three respond to specific characteristics and circulate a particular energy visible in different ways in your body.

The energies vary with the rhythm of Nature, the seasons, your days and behavioral and dietary habits change.

Living far from Nature or at odds with natural rhythms is a source of imbalance. Your Ayurvedic constitution is the same throughout your life, but the balanced state of the doshas can change. We naturally gravitate towards the things that stir up our imbalances and Ayurveda guides us to help us find balance.

Distinguishing and preventing these imbalances before they take hold and cause problems is the fundamental principle of Ayurveda. It is complementary to modern medicine and focuses on the origins of our ailments.
